Our Story

StayConnect® was founded out of a simple quest to help people stay connected – electrically.  Our quest began with the development of the StayConnect® HD-Premium outlet cover.  Mike Schutte, the founder of StayConnect®, was using an electric leaf blower around his home.  As he was working, his extension cord stretched and the plug pulled right out of the socket.  Mike then had to trudge across his yard back to the outlet to re-plug the cord.  How frustrating!  To make it even worse, over time as the plug was repeatedly pulled from the outlet, the ground wire prong broke and the two remaining prongs were bent and twisted out of shape.  Can you relate?

Mike looked online and visited his local hardware store for a solution, and to his amazement there was nothing available that would help. The associate at the store told him to essentially do what he was already doing, “…place a potted plant on the cord or wrap the cord around the railing”.  Knowing that there had to be a better way, Mike decided to create a solution that would not only help him, but also help everyone else.

Tapping into his mechanically inclined engineering nature, Mike forged a design and a prototype was developed.  Mike shared the prototype with friends and family, and everyone encouraged him to share his idea. Tooling was made and production began – it was the beginning of StayConnect® Electrical Solutions. The StayConnect® product line expanded and continues to grow from a simple solution of keeping the cord plugged into the outlet.
